Wrong forum I think, but it does raise the question whether Saunders-Roe ever made a successful airplane.

The Skeeter/Scout doesn't count.

The SRA-1 still survives, a perfectly good aircraft for an absurd specification. If you mean 'built' rather than designed, the Saro built Supermarine Walrii were very successful, and if you mean aircraft rather than airplane, the SRN1 and SRN4 were both of historic import in transport history.

On the other hand the Saro Lerwick certainly is a serious contender for the worst aircraft of W.W.II to be built and enter service, only the Blackburn Botha coming near it for lethality to its own crews and lack of threat to the enemy and inability to do its job.

The reference to the "largest all metal flying boat ever constructed" made me smile, guess the Spruce Goose had it covered.
The thought of the one flyer only clocking 97 hours in the air would have made me cry if I was an UK tax payer.

I'm not, I'd rather we stuck to discussions about warbirds and related topics and avoided re-igniting pointless arguments - this thread certainly now has warbird content, as I put it there. So shall we move on and back to the topics?
