I just caught a glimpose of a 4-engine prop flying over Dallas, probably headed to Love Field or Addison. To far away to see clearly, and I was in my office so I couldn't hear if a recip or a turbo prop. Wings looked fairly short, so maybe a P-3 Orion?

Mike - I haven't seen one in that configuration since my last flashback.

Might have been a P-3. There are a couple of them based at Love Field. I've been told they're "spook" aircraft. They definitely do not carry fleet markings. The ones I've seen carry few markings at all.

I agree with Dean...it was most likely one of the unmarked "spook" P-3's that live at Love Field.

I caught this one departing Love one day...nothing but stars and bars on it...and some interesting protuberances.

Cmdr Chuck Gardner and I were at lunch today in Addison and I saw a P-3 going into Love around noonish 30. They are easy to ID as all the black smoke behind them inflight...

Funny thing is the canoe isn't exactly "classified" anymore. The system is the AN/APS-149 Littoral Surveillance Radar System. There hasn't been any confirmation (officially) but it's believed the system is destined for the P-8 Poseidon. In the meantime, the 2 NAWC-23 aircraft at Love Field and several fleet aircraft have been fitted with the system.

More info on NAWC-23 and the AN/APS-149 can be found here - http://www.p3orion.nl/sneaky.html
