Congratulations Mark! Leslie's PT is indeed beautiful. And congratulations to all the other award winners. Well deserved all around. There was some beautiful hardware there this year. Thought Race 74 should have come home with something though. Phoenix award maybe? It sure is gorgeous!
365 days until Oshkosh 2013.....

No beat up on the EAA admin, plenty to do, and I don't know what they're working from, but you read it here first, guys.

The Collings A36 was something else. Unreal....in a real way.

I'll probably get slammed for this comment, but is there an award for everyone who comes to Oshkosh?

I had no idea there were that many different categories.

Congratulations to the great team of guys at Avspecs Ltd from Ardmore, New Zealand, for winning a Gold Wrench award with Rod Lewis's P-40C Tomahawk, well deserved.

There's a lot of different aircraft there! And categories for some - far from all - of the groups that turn up.

Actually there are some missing categories. Isn't there usually a Best P-51 and Best T-6/SNJ/Harvard prize?
The Judges Choice, Preservation and Phoenix awards are good things to have available in discretionary numbers to reward great work that gets shut out of the big prizes.
The grand champion antique was a beautiful Lockheed 12A from Canada which I unfortunately didn't get a pic of because it was surrounded by admirers at all times.

No. Because as we found out first-hand, there is no plaque for "Best ex-Canadian Armed Forces CT-33".

This is probably a stupid question, but I'll ask it anyway. How do the judges determine which awards will be available in a particular year? Is it based on turnout? I ask this because I see in the past that there have been awards for Best Corsair, Best Navy Fighter, etc. and those honors obviously weren't awarded this year. Is it pre-determined before the show whether these types of awards will be available or is that a decision made based on the turnout? Just curious.

The judges meet and work all of that out once they see what planes are there. I think they take into account quantity, quality, and whether the better planes have taken home prizes already in past years. This year I was able to sneak into the meeting and get this photo.
