A friend has told me today that a warbird i am quite interested in, the Queensland/Caboolture based Mustang VH-MFT, which is painted in RAAF Korean War colours, is reported to have recently reflown in July 2012. .......My friend further tells me it has been suggested that the aircraft will later on be making more trips to the NSW for possible more adventure flights out of a local airport in the longer term???.
A side note to Korea...... is i have to still ask my grandfather who fought in the Korea War from 1950-1952 on 2 tours as a solider ..if his unit 3 RAR... ever got CAS from the RAAF 77sqn Mustangs or Meteors while they were fighting the North Koreans.
Mustang VH-MFT has been a regular part of the Australian warbird scene, owned by a group of people for a number of years now and carries Korean era nose artwork which is very well done. It is used mainly as a adventure flight aircraft to allow people to "experience" a ride in the Mustang and also acts as a warbird when at airshows/displays. It is back in the air now after a long break, where it under went a major engine overhaul. I was made aware of this issue last year as i enquired what was the status, as i was looking at a potential adventure flight idea. Now that it is back reflying and maybe closer to me and many other people near Sydney, this idea can be now rexemained by me.
From my own personal experience having liaised with the team behind MFT over the years ago on a few of my heritage flightgear photo shoots, i can say that they are very nice people to deal with and have the best interest in seeing the Mustang continue to fly for all Aussies.
