I don't post here very often but many of you have probably noticed the links in my signature line for the last few months. At midnight on May first my website went live. Talked about but put on the back burner for quite a while, we went from concept to a live website in three months.
The basis for my site is preservation of history through sharing and discussing Military Aviation Photography. So far the vast majority of the photos on the site are my personal collection, except for a couple. My feeling is that if I buy a photo and tuck it away in my collection then the history captured by that photographer in that moment dies with me, and it deserves to be shared with others that have the same goals and interests. On a couple occasions while researching some of the aircraft in my photos as I upload them I've found family members of airmen looking for information and photos of their relative's planes. If I can help just one person find a photo of their relative's aircraft then it's all worth it.
We put the site up when we had enough to be functional, I started uploading content and a couple site features were added along the way. The major last piece that I felt was needed went in Thursday night (site search box) and now I feel I'm ready for a public announcement. There will still be some things tweaked in the coming months, the way the search results are displayed for instance, but the functionality is there.
You'll notice I now have a banner with the site logo in my signature line, which is a clickable link that will take you to the site. Feel free to stop by and take a look around, and please feel free to comment on any photo, especially if you can help identify the aircraft, airfield or personnel! I know I've been getting some traffic from here, and whoever it is, thank you for your interest!
If anyone has photos that they would like to see featured on the site feel free to submit them to greg @ aviationatwar.com, along with any information you have about the photo and any information you are hoping to gather about it. All photos posted will be credited to the contributor, so please include how you would like credit to be displayed (full name, initials, etc). Any aircraft from any country and any time period are highly welcomed.
Thanks for looking!
Greg
