The new Air Classics reports that Dixie Boy's new owner is having it repainted at Stallion 51. Anyone heard anything about the new markings? It was nice to see 15th FG representation.

Was that Selby Burch's aircraft? Sure was pretty, and definitely stood out from the crowd of 8th AF regulars. Here's hoping for a 52nd FG "yellow tail"! :)

Yes that's it, until August of last year. I agree, beautiful and unique.

There is a photo on Stallion 51's Facebook page that has a picture of Richard and Peter Lauderback doing radio work on the a/c and the caption refers to the bird as "Miss Kandy", but it's in the same colors as "Dixie Boy"... Maybe the new owner is just doing a name change and not a complete repaint... Not really sure...

I had heard the new owner didn't want to keep it polished.

Thanks for the tip Mike, I'll ask them there.

N5444V former Dixie Boy has finished being repainted. I know because I did it look for it at Oshkosh.

Bummer. I liked that scheme. Reminds me of a yellow jacket.

Another P-51 for OSH is a good thing.

Speaking of P-51s and Oshkosh (blatant thread piracy), I wonder if Polar Bear will make a return now that she's reported to be based in Kansas?

What I was thinking, but.... ya know if I had a Mustang I'd probably paint it..... well I'd paint it in 118th recon markings BUT the second one would be a blue nose.

And if I was fortunate enough to have a Mustang, it would be finished as 44-14113 6N-X "Tar Heel", Jim Starnes' old mount which Bert Stiles rode into the ground back in Nov 44. But I don't, and most likely won't, so that's a pretty academic discussion at this point...
