Tanker 44 took off early and headed south – not sure if they released her to go fight the fires in New Mexico.

Very nice shots.

It must be confusing to have two 'Tanker 44's operating from the same base.

The Convair is actually tanker 444 but callsign is 144 while in the US.

do you guys know what the job requirement is for a Neptune firefighter? I think i'd like to fly one of these when i'm old enough...

The photos and photobucket video show the aircraft firing up the engines and flying with what looks like the aux. turbojets inlets covered. Do they use the turbojets on the Neptune when it's working? If not ,why are they still hanging on the wings?

The covers open and close as required. With the jets shut down the covers close for reduced drag
