Looking for some thoughts on current and future availability of W-670 support, in particular the W-670-23 (240 hp variant).

I'm currently looking at a plane that was originally a standard 225 hp 670 and later the owner STC'd it to a -23 with constant speed prop. Engine is mid time and he is offering it with a 0 SMOH crated spare -23 or without the spare and price appropriately discounted.

I'm looking at this plane and a couple others. If I go with this one, I'm trying to decide whether I want the spare. I would expect to own and fly the plane through at least one engine change/overhaul.

I'm told by a couple folks that the issue with the -23 is parts availability and pistons in particular. So I'm wondering if I am better off taking it without the spare and either taking my chances on parts, or changing back to the original 225 hp 670 when it is time to overhaul.

Thoughts?
