Warbird Information Exchange

The line of F-105's parked at Lackland have been discussed here more than a few times but now two of those F-105's are on the move. F-105 61-0106 is headed for the Kansas Aviation Museum in Wichita and 62- 4353 is going to the Freedom Museum USA in Pampa,Tx. I remember one or more of these Thuds have already found new homes in different museums but I cant recall which museums those are.

I was told that all of the F-105's were being placed in museums. Not scrapped like some where stating.

For what i' understand,the idea was never that of scrapping them,rather drastically de-miling so that they couldn't be flown again.

This included severing the wing spars,cutting away the hinges for the airbrake petals and inertizing the engines by pushing steel spikes trough the hot sections.

This done,they probably put some selected airframes back in one piece.

The process was documented here with several photos,of course i can't remember the thread.
