Our Fairey Swordfish, which we finally (after an engine overhaul that lasted 4.5 years) got flying last year, has engine problems again. With only 22 hours of airtime.

I'd better not get into the details, but to cut to the chase: we need Pegasus cylinders. We're looking for those parts, or a whole engine. We'd look at any and all options.

We're at the point of scrapping a full flying season. If anyone has a lead on where we might find a Pegasus, please point me in the right direction.

Thanks,

Dave

This is a shot in the dark, but you could call the Canada Aviation and Space Museum in Ottawa. They seem to have all sorts of things hidden away there. With luck they may have some Pegasus parts.

Good luck in your search. I hope you're able to find what you need quickly.

Peace,

David M

Would Shearwater Aviation Museum consider trading their airworthy Pegasus engine for VWoC non-airworthy engine? Just a suggestion.

Thanks for all the replies.

The CASM was the first place we looked -- just across the river from us. Good idea, but nothing there.

Kermit Weeks -- I suspect he'd rather keep his parts to someday support his own project, but thanks -- another good idea.

Vince O'Connors -- No, I hadn't thought of him -- I don't know him at all. I'll ask Andrej.

Shearwater was the second place we looked -- all picked-over by the RNHF.

And JDK -- thanks for the PM, some great contacts there.

Anyway, it's great to be part of a community that spans the entire globe, and chooses to help each other out. Much obliged.

Dave

After looking at the list of aircraft that used the engine, it looks like the Swordfish is the only type flying that used the engine.

So it looks like your options are...
-build new parts
or re-engine it.

What are the practicalities of either?

How about the Commemorative Air Force? They acquired the ex-Price machine which was destined to be airworthy but are keeping it static, have you checked what condition their engine is in?

Main issue I was told is with the magnesium components on the core & the nose cone part.

The Reynolds Museum in Wetaskawin, Alberta has one of the ex-Simmons machines in storage. Pretty sure it had an engine on it last time I saw it.
