My wife, Marcia, and I just returned from Camarillo where we drove on Friday the 13th to see the Connie Flyaway to her new home in Chino on Saturday January 14, 2012. What a thrill to see and hear those 3350's start with all of the typical exhaust and flames from the power recovery turbos. As she turned from her parking spot and started to taxi away there were many tears being shed. I am not embarrassed to admit that my eyes were too. To some of those there who had never seen her before she was said to waddle down the taxi way. To us who have loved the Constellations, she strode down the taxi way like a queen. From our position on the field, we watched as she parked in the engine run-up area just off the active runway. We could hear the run-ups. What a thrill it was for us and I am sure for the flight crew as well as they checked the mags and completed the take off list, took the active and were rolling.. Marcia and I were both were excited as we watched her climb circle back over the field and then head for Chino. We watched as she gained altitude and headed for her new home with your chase plane with photographers close behind. We wished that we could have been there to experience it along with all the Yanks welcoming people as she arrived. We were pleased to join Global Aeronautical Foundation Members: Mrs Wayne Jones, Lois, widow of Wayne founder of GAF, and her family and our dear friend Mrs Peter Wambaugh, Barbara, widow of retired Navy Captain Peter Wambaugh, for the Fly Away observation. I met some of your flight crew as well as the ground support mechanics and the others who made it all possible. Please congratulate them all for a super job well done.
