The registry says it was shipped to Australia for restoration in 2007. Is this a fact and is it still there? Actively being worked on?

The info I posted is just what's on the FAA registration website and the registration is valid through 2014

The original link of the picture found on www says S. Calif but the background could be also El Paso, Texas. c. 1958. That type of red scheme is unique for an FG-1D in that particuar area.

Does anyone know where Vought acquired this aircraft from?? The white scheme and the painted patch on the left side could indicate a Latin origen FG-1d poss the elusive FAS 201 after being fixed/repaired after the ground loop accident at El Paso TX c. 1957. I could also be wrong but it is worth to follow its historical data.

Perhaps some Aussie colleagues can give us some more details of its history and what they found underneath all the paint jobs.

WOW! If they find that dayglo paint they won't need to turn on the shop lights for a while, that would certainly make an interesting counterpoint statement on a shelf full of Blue Corsair models.

Thanks for sharing the pictures, we have never seen a color pic of our FG-1D when it was in Chance Vought colors.Before it was purchased by Chance Vought it had a racing career as Race number 90 painted white with Joe on the side of the fuselage.It never saw any service it went straight from the factory to a aircraft pool in California then was surplused shortly after WWII ended.When it was converted to a racer an extra fuel tank was added behind the pilot's seat and the Goodyear built wings were removed and replaced with a set of early F4U-1A wings with 80 gallon leading edge tanks for more range! A few years back we wanted to start the project but we found the center section had corrosion in the spar caps and in the fuel bay area.We made a agreement with Precision Aerospace in Australia to send then just the center section for restoration and in return they are using our center section as a guide to repair another Corsair project that had it's center section cut. They are making steady progress on the center section and I will try to update on any further progress.

Here is a 1958 view of the airplane taken by John Voss at Orange County Airport after it was purchased by Paul Mantz. It was folded into Tallmantz in 1961, then was sold in 1966 with many of the Tallmantz airplanes to Rosen Novak, then sold at the May 1968 auction.
