Anyone have photos of the T-28B used for testing while developing the C model? Any help is appreciated

I have seen pictures of 138185 and 138187, configured as C models. Are these the aircraft you're searching?

Specifically 138203, but any from that time will work. Just want to know how they were painted.

I am only aware of 138187 being the sole C prototype. The parts book lists only that Buaero number as being a C, and also shows a coresponding gap in the consecutive B numbers of only 138187 It is actually a NAA model 225. All production C models were NAA model 226 and started with Buaero No. 140053. I have been more than elbow deep in both of these aircraft, and both are still with us, and airworthy.

I was also under the impression that they were flight tested at Colombus and Pax River. Once the flight test program was complete, 138187 was sent "back through the line" and was brought up to production configuration and sentto active inventory. It would have been overall orange yellow with green anti glare panels and Engine grey exhaust stripes.

Yeah, I haven't found any solid evidence of it being there. But was curious about how they were painted or if any photo's existed. The story goes...it was the sister ship to the one you are talking about, but again, no confirmation.

I seem to remember seeing a photo somewhere, and it was in the overall yellow scheme, which makes sence since all the production B's were painted that same scheme and this one was essentially lifted from the B-line and converted. All of the interchangeable parts would have been yeller already, as they were pulled from stock, just as they would be if it would have ended up as a B.

All of the factory new spare wings for the B and C (and most other exterior airframe parts for B-C) that I have come across over the years were painted yellow as well.

Now, if memory serves, two A models were pulled from the Downey line and converted to B model prototypes, I wonder if this is leading to some confusion.

138185 was indeed a prototype.

I agree with T-28 Mike that the prototypes were the yellow scheme with engine gray exhaust area. I am a bit unclear on the color used on the top of the cowl and on the top of the flaps. The first three production blocks of T-28B's used a flat Medium Green. T-28B 138329 (ship 400) and up, used flat Black in those areas according to the markings drawings. Unfortunately, I do not have any drawings for the C model to verify.

The B&W images of T-28C's seem to show flat Black on the cowl and flap upper surfaces.

I sure wish there were some good color slides of the airplanes at the factory, like we see of other aircraft. I have never seen any. Anybody know someone with good color shots??

138187 has a manufacturers serial number of 225-001, Can you get me the Number off 185 ? I'm not doubting what you state, but I am cornfuzed.

I have a three manufacturer images I found on the internet of 138185. One reads 6-17-55, T-28C prototype #1, 225-0-1B. The second says T-28C prototype #1, 225-0-1B. The third is uncaptioned, but clearly shows the bureau number.

I will be happy to send them to you if you send me your email. I fail miserably at posting images.
