Guys,

Not exactly warbird related, but I couldn't figure any other place to put it. I'm about to purchase a supposedly WWII Navy farmall "A" tractor that was used to tug planes. Would any of you happen to have photos of what a representative Navy tractor (tug) might have been painted like at an NAS during WWII?

I know paint schemes varied wildy (as did airplane schemes) from place to place, just looking for a start.

I've seen color photos in both glossy medium gray and in glossy yellow. You might be able to find a spot that appears to be unmolested and chip the paint or gently sand some off the coats see what the base color was and all the in between shades too.

I agree, seems that from post to post the different services had different paint schemes on the tugs and follow me and flightline vehicles.
