PM question for Scott and/or Mods..

Sent a PM last night and noticed that today it still shows in the outbox but also shows as sent. Question is, is there a time delay/lag for some reason and the PM sits in the outbox a period of time before actually being sent? Or even though it is still in the outbox it has been sent as indicated in sent messages.
Have noticed this before and only on this board. Appreciate any clarification here.
