Hi.
Bombs have been mentioned. I wonder if you were conversent with the Butterfly Bombs which the Luftwaffe used in 1943. For some reason, my home town, Grimsby was chosen for the deed, to a lesser extent, Newark in Nottinghamshire as well. They were fiendish devices. They were dropped by Heinkel 111K specially addapted. They were dropped in large cylindrical container which shortly after release, opened scattering them far and wide. There were about the size of an 8oz condensed milk tin. The sides opened followed by the end plates which were set at a slight angle and turned a screwed rod out of the detonator. All the way out it became contact bomb or depending on how much it unscrewed was its sensitivity. There was a complete blackout on news freom these two towns and the Germans not getting any feed back never used them again thankfully, they were killers.
