Today at work I was thinking about looking for C-141 information on WIX when I got home. And there it was, right on the front page! I remember reading that the C-141 had the same fuselage cross-section as the C-130, which limited it's lifting potential somewhat.

Are there any short-fuselage ('A' model?) C-141s left anywhere?

EDIT: I'll save my questions for after I look over that site. I have some C-141 photos somewhere. I remember one in particular that had a P-38 painted on its tail.

Thanks!

The Air Force definitely got its moneys worth out of the C-141...every Penney. It served well...

The site (or google) should have the info, but my understanding is that the sole surviving C-141A flies with NASA and there should be some neat shots of it towing a QF-106 in a test.

The P-38 logo on the tail identifies planes assigned to McGuire AFB, NJ.

I believe the Starlifter mentioned above is with the AMC museum at Dover AFB (C-141 61-2778). It was added to the collection in 1998.

The link to the only surviving A-model on C-141Heaven is:

I was also reminded, for those of you who haven't used it, how expansive the photo search engine on airliners.net is. It certainly is not just airliners!
