It looks like they want to build a building to house the aircraft collection there. Lets hope it happens. Read all about it on the home page of their website http://www.8afmuseum.com

Great news for the aircraft and community!

Isn't there already an "8th Air Force Museum" though in Savannah? Or has the Barksdale air park on the base always called themselves that?

The Mighty Eighth Air Force Museum is located in Pooler,Ga www.mightyeighth.org I dont know the history of the museum at Barksdale but as long as I have been keeping track of aviation museums it has been named that.

If they all come inside, then I would be thrilled. The NASM had a few chances to get a B-24 years ago but they didn't seem interested. YAM even if they were cool with the NMUSAF doesn't have a plce to put a B-24 indoors. So it would be exposed to Michigan winters. Not sure there is a simple answer to where it would go.

Just curious Chris, which B-24 did the NASM have a chance to get?

It's been talked about on here before, but I don't recall which ones. I seem to recall there was more than one that they passed on. I'm not attacking the NASM by any means. I understand that the point of their collection is not only warbirds and that they have to balance what they have.
