My latest production features the P-51 Mustang 'Never Miss', who happened to oblige me with multiple photo ops on a beautiful evening against the backdrop of a gorgeous sunset in the Genesee Valley.

For those who've been here, take a moment, kick back, relax, imagine wandering the fields beer in hand, the smell of natural fertilizer wafting through your nose.....and the chirp of crickets interupted by the growl of a Merlin!

Crank your speakers for the full effect! :D

Enjoy,
Pete

Nice work! Did they find and replace the misfiring sparkplug that kept going 'bloop' 'bloop'?

A Merlin can sound different at idle depending on-
Spark Plugs- Original British Type, Champion Aircraft Type or Champion Auto Racing each is a little different.
Magnetos- BTH, Rotax or General Motors Northeast. Each sounds a little different and even point gap will change things a hair.
Cams- -7, -9 and Transports each have a different profile and will idle differently.
Carbs- There is an idle bleed air circuit difference between the carb for a -7 and -9. It affects idle cross over in some ranges and sounds different at times because of it. Then their is idle mixture.
I listened to it and I didn't hear anything that would cause me alarm.
As for important issues, thats why a pilot does a runup, so hopefully he will find and recognize any issues.

I agree, but it shouldn't be making a missing cylinder sound @ power and you can distinctly hear 'bloop' 'bloop' 'bloop' every time the airplane passes whether on the ground or pulling big manifold pressure during a pass.In hydros we went after the plugs because one wasn't firing or not firing correvctly and the 'bloop' was the half burned charge exiting that stack.

Great video, well done. My wife is in the front seat of the Stearman heading out for a sunset flight over Letchworth with Quentin Marty. Some of the photos are posted here http://www.airic.ca/html/2011geneseostearmanflt.html The video brings back some great memories.

Eric

Oh ya, notice the beer in hand after the flight
