Here is a report of a crash site we investigate in Aprile before I know the WIX forum. Surely aircraft is a P38. There is no MACR. Pilot bailde out. This P38 is NOT Wojcik or Dibble P38 crashed in same area but in different place. Every help will be appreciate.

Here is my post as published in other forum:

We know from book and witnessing that a USA aircraft crashed on ground in sept 1943 (some say 9 sept, some say 21 sept) around 50 km south of Salerno. Aircraft had double fuselage. Shot down from german fighters. Pilot bailed out before crash.

Every informations you can give to identify it will be very appreciate.

The place.

Interesting detective work. Only if you could find just a little more of the data panel that would show the serial number.

Its a P-38.
Printings: 14 ST, 247805, (704), 246079.
Next to the last image is a fitting where the wings bolt togethers on a P-38.
Top and bottom differ in the dia of the hole and bolt. These ran between the front and rear spars.
The type and spacing of the nutplates is very P-38 as Lockheed loved to use many more screws than most.

When you say the name Wojcik, do you mean Stanley Wojceik? I knew him from MAPS in Akron.

Is his crash site known?
