Got a call this a.m. from a Gov. Contact and he has told me that as of Apr 29/11 , the Russell Group Spitfire Mk IX based at Niagara Falls Canada has been sold and is no longer listed in the Canadian registry :(
The Transport Canada registry states that it has been exported to the U.K.
What a shame to lose such a gorgeous airplane.

I have heard the Emil has a FS sign as well.
Figure they will get something new to attack the flag pole.

Well this real real real sucks {for lack of a better word}. Have been hearing rumours that the Russell's were packing it in for awhile now, guess it is reality now :( . Yes last fall Rick V was telling me the BF109 was going up for sale but was priced very high and he thought it would be awhile before it sold. I remember last year Ed said the 109 was valued at 10 Million, lots more than the MKI Spitfire that was listed.

I guess the CWH better change their line up for their airshow this year, hear two months ago the Russell aircraft were not going.

That really does suck, I live about 15 minutes from the hangar. That spit was a beauty!

Is he selling off the whole collection?

Not surprised but still it is a shame. Thanks to Ed and his folks for sharing her with us for a few years and hope our English friends get as much pleasure. She's gone home.

It has been in the making for a couple months now. Take solace that the aircraft is going to a good home.

Sad to see them moving on but feel pretty happy to have gotten the chance to see them so many times (not that it is ever enough).

Just wish I could have seen the 109 at Geneseo just once.

A shame... I always liked the Russell outfit. So is he selling the other three off as well? (Hurricane, 109, Harvard) :(

Would anyone out there know if the Russell aircraft have all been sold off? His aircraft were originally listed in the line up for the CWH airshow but all have been removed. Too bad... it was great having an authentic, Marseille-flown, 109 out on the Niagara Peninsula. I suppose good things can't last.

With the Spit now gone to the UK, the rumor is that the ME 109 is also for sale at around $10 million.
However, I have not seen anything officially stating that price.
No word on the Hurricane but again rumor that the Harvard is also for sale.
Certainly looks like Mr. Russell is getting out of the warbird game.

Has anyone heard who bought the Spitfire ???????????

Is that $10 million in Canadian dollars or American dollars? And is there much difference these days?

Last I heard(last week) the 109 still has not had the prop annual done from last year, the prop is still on the hanger floor. The Canadian/ US dollar's have been around par for a while now.

Never could understand all the cloak and dagger secrets when it comes to the sale of warbirds? Someone in the UK got themselves a nice MKIX Spitfire. Hope they put the proper nose art back on it.

Cheers Dave
