Always wanted one of these! Anyone know the history of this one? Wish I had the coin.

If I recall correctly. I remember being told by an 8th Sqdn vet ( flew both WW2 and Korea) that some of the 8th's A-26's were flown from either Kunsan (K-8), Korea or Atsugi Japan to Vietnam in 1953 or 1954.

jet 1 brings up a very good point. As we know the A-26 was fast. Now I know it couldn't race due to weight limits, but if it could, how do you guys think it would do? Has anyone ever raced an A-26 officially?

we actually had an A-26 race at reno....Tired Iron' puss n boots out of Greybull Wyo. we had a 'medallion' race Sunday morning for the slowest of the slow inc. the A-26 and Jay Cullums Skyraider amongst others. It was fun to watch, puss n boots popped open their bomb bay doors every time they passed the start finish line. I don't even remember who won, but it was sure fun to watch!......slow....but fun!

There has been at least one raced back in the day. They were banned from racing, but not due to a weight rule. As the courses got smaller (especially at Reno) the G-loads went up. If I remember correctly, nothing with a G limit of less than 3.5 can be raced now.

Here's my A-26C 44-35898 racing at Reno in 1968 by John Lear. Beat a few Mustangs..

"It was not until 1968 that Invaders returned to air racing when the irrepressible John Lear entered A-26C N3328G Race 76 at the Reno National Air Races. The other pilots had to agree to let the beast go around the pylons and John managed to qualify at a slow 259.32 mph but in the final Bronze race he slipped past a Mustang to take fifth at 283.68 mph." :finga:

Any of you S/N Geeks like me have a line on what the ID of the A-26 listed on Barnstormers would be? Closest I can come is 41-39223, but the dates for when it was SOC don't line up...
