excellent!! have never seen any of these pics other than the 109 recovery from the lake. I don't believe it was a war grave, I think it bellied in on ice, & later sank upon melting from what I can recall.

The 109 wasn't a war grave and is the aircraft owned by Friedkin currently on display at Chino.

amazing!!! never saw any of these pics either, & I've been doing this since 1972. who knows what are in the surviving veteran's footlockers both allied & axis!!! a fun fact......... the hs 129 cockpit was so small that the instrument mounted ahead of the windshield on the exterior of the cockpit (I think a compass or gunsight) was put their because there simply was no room to accommodate it in the cockpit. I can see the designers now....... where are we going to put this instrument??? & they came to the conclusion, the heck with it, put it here & let's have some schnapps & call it a day!! :drinkers:

Majority are commonly reproduced in Luftwaffe publications, particularly the colour shots, although the last one of the 109s
is bogus.

Ju 88 sinking in the ice is now under restoration at Gardermoen, Norway.

So, I, for one, do not have all of the publications on the Luftwaffe. Why don't you say something positive and constructive? :axe:

I enjoy all the pics shown here and on other threads. It takes some effort to do it. :drink3:

Stating facts is neither positve or negative. A 'basic' Luftwaffe book has a number of the images, others perhaps more type specific. But let's forget books for the moment, which seems to be the trend anyway, a simple Google image search will bring up quite a number of these shots on multitudes of websites
If Tom has never seen any of these in over four decades there is something amiss.

The other 'fact' that two of the aircraft are still with us is a positive though, hope that meets your criteria.

My comments are no reflection on the time an effort it takes to post photos.

Great set of pictures. Keep them coming!

Dave is correct, the recovered Bf-109 was not a war grave.

Thanks! Interesting mixed selection.

The ones with 'LIFE' on them, probably 'Life'?

Some interesting items, as well as a number of familiar ones. (The He 115 shot appears in just about every publication about the aircraft...)

A point re 'footlocker discoveries' - the vast majority are from 'official' Axis or Allied sources, rather than individuals' cameras; easy tell is because they're all sharp, composed and framed, at an appropriate shutter speed. (We should all be familiar by now of the round robin e-mail of 'footlocker found' Pearl Harbor shots that was all over the place a year or two back. And were US official images.)

This:
Image
...is interesting, it's the V1 Storch prototype, though the second to fly, as V2, D-IDVS flew first.

Anyone know what the uniforms of those young chaps is?

Image
Something a bit interesting about this one - a couple of items say 'fake' to me - or 'repainted' back into German markings after capture. Anyone care to comment?

Image
Most of the dates seem good, but this is a two-blade prop and the big scoop radiator, making it a pre-109E, so out of frontline service by 1941. But that doesn't make it wrong, just intriguing. Again, any comment?

Regards,

James, the Fw 190G air to air shot was taken near Wright Field; this was a captured example tested thoroughly by the USAAF and repainted in bogus German markings for purposes of recognition photos. The Bf 109D-1 with the crew of rodeo wannabees was based in Norway (obviously) and I seem to recall it was one of those used by a Jagdfliegerschule. The JFS units took on all the cast-off obsolete types as newer models filtered into operational units; I have a series of interesting pics of a Bf 109E-4 painted in a late 1943/early 1944 scheme of RLM 74/75/76 with zig-zag color demarcations on the wings and the late war stencil crosses, no idea which JFS it belonged to but it's certainly attractive!

As Dave noted, there are quite a few in there which are familiar to me, but a surprising number of new ones... the Hs 129 being rearmed is one I've not seen before, and it's always good to see coverage of the Fw 189. :)

Thanks Lynn. The Fw 190 giveaway is the oversize misaligned swastika. I was wary as other markings were accurate enough, and the Werke Nr was (still) visible on the fin, while back on the first, other hand, the missing unit makings were suspicious...

For some reason, it seems almost every repainted, or film, or fake swastika applied on an aircraft in the USA in W.W.II was misaligned, either slightly or significantly. Sometimes I'm sure it was to show contempt or disparage the marking (the reversed ones being a more extreme version of that) while others lining up with the aircraft's centreline (or even the wrong-but-logical ground static line) was obviously 'just too hard'. 8)

I sometimes think it would be (mildly) fun to collect a selection of the more egregious examples of the US-Luftwaffe rotated swastikas. Now there's a thread theme for Mark Allen M!

Regards,

Last I checked the Mark Allen M PM request line was quite full, but as I do find some requests to be challenging and at times rewarding, I'll certainly keep your thought in mind. pop2

So here's a morning commentary for ya's ... (Whether you care or not  )

Seriously I will state from personal experience that ANY effort to post photos on this, or any related website, is a commendable and appreciated endeavor, no matter what the warbird related subject. To me it makes no difference whether a photo (or series of photos) are regurgitated time and again as long as the effort is valid and in good faith. What many here have seen before, there's a good bet many others have not seen before and that makes the effort all the more valid.

Have I personally seen most all the photos posted in this thread before? Sure I have, but by no means am I personally not grateful and appreciative, because I certainly am. Does it take a considerable amount of work and dedication to post these old photos? You better believe it does, but In my case the effort is the reward and any accolades or "atta-boys" are not needed or requested (see my signitures below as they pretty much sum up my views)

I have yet to see or hear any complaints from the management towards anyone who posts regurgitated photos on this website so I encourage all who care to post any and all photos to "post away" until said management states otherwise. As stated in the past several times that I've witnessed, "this website is NOT a democracy but rather a management run empire" so simply stated the management has all the power to control what content a thread may have and I have no problem with that. I leave it to them to decide a threads fate, not us. ... But our opinions do matter and the wonderful world of PMing the management should always be an option.

I'm quite well aware that most all of my photo threads have been posted in the WRONG WIX location, but I do that for a few reasons and so far the management seems not to mind. Trust me if it were a problem the management would certainly correct it quickly I would assume.

A last note, and this comes from someone who had to learn some hard lessons about Internet forums. Some of you may ( and for certain good reasons) take this and other related websites too seriously and that's fine for you, but others don't and that's fine too. Not all of us are warbird scholars and don't care to be. (That would be me) many of us simply enjoy this crazy stuff for pure entertainment only. I tend to cut slack for anyone who re-posts a beaten to death photo or topic simply for no other reason than the poster always seems to have good intentions. Not everyone has faith in the search feature here (that would be me too)

Thus Endith this babble.

And Thank you very much for posting these outstanding photos and keep up the great job. Mucho appreciated :supz:
