I have met the owner last week-end and he told me he has decided to part with Spitfire SL-542.

The aircraft which has been professionally dismantled and partially restored is 98% complete with only minor components missing. All components are tagged and packed in sturdy plastic crates, documentation is also available.

The owner cited other commitments including the CF-CPA project as justification for his decision to sell this aircraft.

If you are interrested in more information, send me a PM and I will provide them as I'll be acting as agent for this sale. A page dedicated to SL542 will eventually be posted on my web site. In the meantime, some pics are available here: Wings Magazine

This sale is not advertized anywhere else for now, WIXers have the exclusivity ! Serious inquiries only please.

So are they not serious about selling after 2 years or do they want way too much $$? I would think that if the project is as you say, someone would surely have bit on it by now, no? :?

My personal opinion is that the owner has mixed feelings about it... On one hand, he is trying to coax an engineer to take on the rest of the project with him, full time. He has a piece of history in his hangar and would love to take it to completion. The engineer in question owns his own maintenance shop with his sons and is still thinking about it. Hard to tell what his final decision will be. Restoring a Spitfire to flying status is no small task and he knows well. On the other hand, if someone comes with the right offer, the owner, being a business man, will let it go. But he's in no hurry to do so...

There was a "serious" offer that originated from France but I don't think it came through at the end. That bid was for $1,000,000 US.
