Acquired Photo Collection

Sat Mar 12, 2011 4:08 pm

I have recently acquired a whole bunch of WWII (and some WWI) memorabilia from a co-worker of mine whose father was a motorcyclist and mechanic in Texas during WWII. Amongst the goodies, there are about 100 or so photos of R.C.A.F. aircraft. The prints are 3x5 and on the back have a blue stamp that reads:

APPROVED FOR RELEASE
BY THE R.C.A.F.

This is Photo Number Insert four didget number here
Latest Catalogue Price 10¢
REPRODUCTION PROHIBITED
AEROPLANE PHOTO SUPPLY
P.O. Box 195, TORONTO CANADA

Can anyone tell me anything more about these series?

We had a bunch donated to CHAA by a lady who collected them during the war.
They were collected mostly by kids (kinda like baseball cards) and were sold for 10¢ apiece, as you've noted.
However, they weren't all RCAF aircraft. These were generic photos of aircraft released by the censors for public use.
For example, Hurricane K5083 that you have shown is the prototype aircraft.

Hope this helps.
