Won't this kinda screw up TIGHAR's conclusion that A.E. and co. were devoured by crabs on that island south of Howell Island?

Earhart Wreck Found?
Email this article |Print this article

By Russ Niles, Editor-in-Chief
A report from Papua New Guinea says the wreck of an aircraft that might be the Lockheed Electra flown by Amelia Earhart and her navigator Fred Noonan has been found on a reef near Bougainville Island near Papua New Guinea. The Papua New Guinea Post Courier is reporting "armed men" are guarding the area over a reef off Matsungan Island where an aircraft matching the description of Earhart's plane has been found. Divers are now checking the wreck and inquiries are flooding in from all over the world. There is no word on whether any human remains have been recovered.

If the plane is Earhart's, it will help to solve a 77-year-old mystery surrounding her disappearance on a leg of a pan Pacific flight leg from New Guinea to Howell Island in July of 1934. Local sources told the newspaper the existence of the wreck has been known for years. Government officials say it belongs to Papua New Guinea and they'll be defending that claim.

Article ends.

Maybe it is just some MIA American, RAF, RAAF, Dutch or Japanese WWII A/C that was shot down during the war. They just thought about it NOW, even though the wreck was known about for years???

LOL.....for that to be her- instead of the theory she flew for hours and hours , only to end up in Howland's vicinity, she just flew in a circle and never left New Guinea!

Fascinating stuff! I can't wait to learn whether it's the real deal, or if it's just some old twin.

Keep us posted.

This is my theory. FDR conspired to have a duplicate Lockheed with a female pilot and male navigator airborne over the Pacific on a secret reconnaisance mission to get intelligence on the Japanese. This is the crew captured by the Japanese. Amelia and Fred were a fortuitous distraction to the real mission.

it could happen, the US and the Japanese had some issues in the pacific at the time, maybe Amelia and fred got payed off and then layed low. for enough money,I would too.
