Warbird Information Exchange

In October 1992 while walking round the lock-ups at Santa Monica airport, California, I looked through an open door and found five airframes squeezed into a small space. They were a pair of P47 fuselages, a T33 or P80, a T34 Mentor and a Sikorsky S58 marked PP-FPM. I deduced from that chopper that everything else was probably ex Brazilian too. Someone appeared and quickly slammed the door shut and i wasn't able to identify the airframes.
Does anyone remember this stash and know anything of their fate ? Someone once suggested the name Maurice Genazy as the owner if that helps at all ?

Guess you are refering to Maurice Skinazi and Airplane Sales International. He got some P-47s out of Brazil and a lone one from Peru (i think).

I seem to remember that the Peruvian airframe was somewhat in a state. Corrosion or bad parts. It also had a tailwheel which looked like it came off of a farm tractor...

I went to see them for Butch Schroeder. Butch eventually bought "Hairless Joe". Those planes had their spars cut and were really pretty rough. There was also a hangar nearby chock full of motorcycles from the Steve McQueen collection. I remember touching the Vincent Black Shadow and wishing I could have met him.
