"that's not a knife, THAT'S a knife" ~ C.D.

Aviation history related and thought I'd share. I was recently helping my father move and came across this neat find squirreled away in his closet. It's a custom made Machete that my Uncle strapped to his flight gear when he flew missions over Vietnam. If this knife could only talk about all the cat shots and missions over hostile territory in F-8's, it's seen. The actual intent I'm told was to improve upon the standard issue survival knife, if the need to punch out and contend with jungle foliage or disagreeable VC, arised. My Uncle purchased it in the Philippines while en-route to Yankee Station. Interestingly it's made from an old automobile leaf spring with the handle being made from the horn of a water buffalo and 40+ years later it still holds an edge. Would not have wanted to be on the pointy end of it. Just an interesting little tidbit about how some Naval Aviators over Vietnam prosecuted their rolls in the war.
