B-17 Chuckie's New Home

Mon Jan 17, 2011 4:46 pm

:D Join us for the arrival of the B-17 “Chuckie” The newly acquired B-17G Flying Fortress is scheduled to fly from Meacham Field(KNFW) in Fort Worth, Texas, to its new home at the Virginia Beach Military Aviation Museum (42VA) on Saturday, January 22nd 2011.

There is a likelihood that the aircraft will make a fuel stop along the way at Little Rock (KLIT), Arkansas, and then arrive in Virginia Beach later that same afternoon. Assuming no adverse weather or mechanical problems, it should be overhead the museum sometime before 4-5:00 pm. However, tailwinds might accelerate that arrival time. You can track its progress on Flight Aware (http://www.FlightAware.com) and place its registration number into Live Flight Tracker/Private Flight Tracker as N3701G into the Flight/Tail# block. Then click on TRACK FLIGHT and you will see exactly where it is along its route of flight, so you will know when to head for the museum airport and cheer its arrival. The bomber will stay here for several weeks and be on display for the annual Valentine’s Day dance on Saturday, February 12th. We hope to see you there!

VaBeachEd...just curious if you know what plans Mr Yagen has for Chuckie insofar as is he planning routine maintenance over the summer that will preclude Chuckie making appearances at airshows in the area? The reason I ask is that Lynchburg is in the process of planning an airshow in May (Blue Angels) and would be great to figure out how to get Chuckie and possibly others in Mr Yagen's collection to appear there.

Zane, She's going to get all the love she can handle I'm sure! :) We're all pretty excited about her joining our collection. Our guests are pretty revved up about her arrival on Saturday, and we're really looking forward to giving her a great home. (We also can't wait for the Mossie and the ME-262, so 2011 looks to be a great year!)

6t, the museum does indeed send aircraft to other airshows, and I'd be happy to put you in contact with the guy who handles that. In this case, I checked your website, and your airshow is the same weekend as ours, so I'm pretty sure Chuckie has a "previous engagement"!!

Will she stay as Chuckie or be getting a new ID?

I read an update yesterday on the MAM website (it wont load on my work PC) that Chuckie will be keeping her name and markings. She will also be receiving some additional restoration work and should be ready to do shows at the end of May.

Howdy Ed...don't it just figure that our events are on the same weekend :( I do see a little road trip in the cards for that weekend though! Depending on whether the boss wants me here for the whole weekend, I certainly want to come over there as well. A ton of work to do between now and then! Congrats again on Chuckie...will the 262 be there by the time of your airshow?
