I have posted the request below in several formers but to date have received no responses. Am I requesting the impossible?

I am currently working on a project involving the reconstruction of a Hurricane cockpit. At present I am assembling the pilots seat armor and need dimensional drawings of decking former #3 (this is the former just aft of the seat armor). The assembly drawing of the seat armor I have shows the upper and intermediate armor plates attached to this former. If a detailed dimensional drawing is not available for this former an old former that could be used as a template would also work.

Where are you located?
Vintage wings has a hurricane under restoration that they might be able to get you dimensions possibly. They also have a flier.
Contact them through there website.

I can't guarantee they can help you, but its somewhere for you to start.

Ask on the Key Historic forum, where there are a lot more people who deal with Hurricanes - it'll help also if you give a bit more detail, as most people are prepared to help once they know about about you and what you are trying to do - especially if restoration is their job; helping competition or time-wasters isn't part of a normal business' agenda.

Thank you for the information and advice.

Per James suggestion for more detail as to myself and project. I am not a professional aircraft restorer just an avid hobbyist who started collecting Hurricane parts to build an instrument panel using only original equipment. Well the panel has now grown into a project to build an entire cockpit. Again with as many original Hurricane parts as possible. The reason I need to drawings of former #3 is that will be the aft most part of the cockpit and the firewall will be the fore most part.

So any advice anyone is will to share good or bad is greatly appreciated.

The firewall isn't, there's 35 gallon gas tank right in front of it. There's a Hurricane in a museum in VA, can't remember the of it, its a flyer.

We have 2 Hurricanes, one flying and one under restoration. I don't see a problem with you're coming up and having a close look, and taking any number of photos and measurements. While I don't speak for the outfit, our motto is to "Educate, Commemorate, and Inspire", and I think your task falls within that mandate.

However we probably can't commit to doing that work for you. You know best what you need, so I'd recommend arranging a visit sometime this winter. Lots to see.

Mind you, we'll probably put you to work.

Good point - there is a firewall, it's just got the fuel / petrol (not 'gas' on a Hurricane) tank aft of the wall. I recall seeing an perfect image recently showing this area, and remembered it was in Nick's excellent thread.
