Warbird Information Exchange

On a recent business trip to Silicon Valley I found some downtime to get up to the Oakland Aviation Museum. The jaunt was specifically to see their F-14A, BuNo. 160666. This Tomcat i had suspected through research that my uncle had flown during CVW-15 cruise aboard the USS Kittyhawk May 30, 1979 - Feb.25, 1980 as the CO of VF-111 Sun. So the night before, after a call to my aunt, she was able to drag out my uncles logbook and confirm for me that he had flown "666" several times among many other F-14As. Interesting notes that my aunt told me about my uncle's flying career was that his log book started in 1961 and he had accrued over 5,300 hrs of flight time with just under 2000 traps. Not bad for a kid from the farmlands of western Indiana.

I should mention that I really enjoyed the OAM. Lots of stuff to look at and it will take ya awhile to look at it all.

Thought you might find this interesting. Pima's Tomcat was with VF-111 on that cruise too. Here are a few images of part of an exhibit that will be opening in our new building on Sunday.









The video playing on the screen is about 20 minutes of film shot on Kitty Hawk in November 1979.

Thanks James, that's good stuff! My Aunt rattled off a bunch of other F-14A BuNo.s from that time frame. It would not surprise me if my Uncle had a log entry or two of the Pima's Tomcat as well. I'm hoping to go out and visit the family on the west coast sometime in the near future and while there I'd like to take pictures of his log book and document it.

Do you know if that video is available online?
