Warbird Information Exchange

I was looking (again for the 1000th time in 45 years ) in U.S. Military Aircraft Since 1909 By Swanborough & Bowers and and the St. Louis YPT-15 again got my attention.
I've wondered about it for years and I figure if anyone would know more about them, it would be someone here....

It looks very similar to a Stearman 75/PT-13/17 etc.
Anyone know anything about them? Are there any left?

Remember the vets, the wonderful planes they flew and their sacrifices for a future many of them did not live to see.

I was thinking there was one at Oshkosh and also on the cover of trade-a-plane 20 to 25 years ago. To me it looked a lot like the Stearman and WACO UPF-7. I think it may have been lthe only surviving example until lost in a crash. May have been painted overall black in a civvy scheme.

There's one listed in the FAA registry (updated in 2009)... no idea whether it's a flyer or not... anyone know?

Given that the registry is still current, and that the owner also has a couple of other vintage aircraft, there's a good chance she might be resurrected again if she hasn't already.

Bob DeFord in Prescott AZ owned the only one for a number of years. He sold it and the new owner promptly ground looped it and seriously damaged it. As far as I know, it still survives awaiting repairs.
