Friend Jon Shoop "14th Armored Division Reenacted" was invited to bring one of his fully automatic .50 calibers along and be the port door gunner on "Witchcraft". This was for the last battle on Sunday, they would be strafing the Germans. I don't think the spectators realized the scenario as the .50 gunfire was pretty much drowned out by the ground noise. I knew what was going on and could actually see the flash from the gun and discern the "pop" from the rest the noise clutter. They went through about 200 blank rounds.
He took this video during the run in to the "missing man" formation. He had a huge grin on his face the whole 9 hour trip home. Needless to say, I'm very jealous.
Twas great to meet several fellow Wixers, Glen, Mustang Driver, Zach and son Wyatt, Rob and Joe. Cool !........John

Yeah, kind of like "stop motion animation". Maybe someone on here can explain how this happens with video.

I was on the ground Sunday during the battle fly-by's and I could clearly hear the gun noise coming from Witchcraft. I was sitting on the north end of the spectator area, so that probably helped....didn't notice the muzzle flash though....couldn't figure out what gun to focus on.

strobe effect shutter speed. designed to do stop action for sports but really ruins prop shots.

Hi Guys,

Pretty good video, the only thing I think could have been a little bit better is if the shooter would have focused on one whole B-17 at a time and not just from the wings forward. But I still think it was an awesome video. I give it my Two Thumbs Up : )

I heard and saw the gunfire. Was actually surprised by it. Earlier, I had said to Mrs. Mudge how cool it would have been to have some sort of realistic sounding fire from Old Crow as it made passes over the ground battle. I'm sure it could be done, but exactly how is out of my area of expertise.

Mudge the imaginative

The video was taken with a borrowed digital camera. So as far as the quality, it was done with the best that was available. Jon's an MV guy, not a camera nut. I think it turned out pretty good considering what he was using. The "ride along" was "up in the air" if you must, so he "made do" with what he could find.
Mudge, I do remember seeing a "Zero" replica several years ago with firing guns. I think it belonged to "Rudy Frasca". Probably Oxygen- Propane fired. It did some strafing runs.................John

Now that you mention it, I think I remember that, too. I could be mistaken, though. I was once before. In 1953.

Mudge the memorable
