Skagit County Tulip Festival Fly-In

Hi All, I thought you might enjoy some pics of the Tulip Festival Fly-in which took place on Saturday at Skagit County (Bayview) Airport.

This is perhaps the only CT-114 tutor flying in civilian hands. It is owned by a friend who received it as a trade from the RCAF for his DeHavilland Vampire

Some more of the flightline

This oddity is a Schwiezer (sp?) YO-3 which was used in Viet Nam. It is one of only a handful in existence, and hasn't moved in the last several years. The rubber has rotted off the wheels and melted to the tarmac. It has a six-bladed wood prop, and is supposed to be extremely quiet.

Parked way in the back corner behind some hangars was a neat surprise. Perhaps a possible candidate for sanctuary at Austin Acres Widlife Refuge, Warbird Rides, Canoe Rentals, and Petting Zoo?:lol: This PBY is apparently under restoration to fly, and was discussed a time ago on WIX

Great variety of aircraft... and great to see the P-Boat there too.

The YO-3 was an interesting sight... if anyone is interested, there is a Lockheed Q-Star (YO-3A prototype) for sale in MA... http://www.tannerhillerairport.com/62/80.html

I assume the tulip festival is also gone and past too?

By the way, is that Jerry Jane's Beech 18?

Daveymac- I think the tulip festival is a week-long event. I'm not sure though if it was last week or this week. And yes, it is Jerry Janes' Beech 18.

Gary- The YO-3 was an observation airplane designed to be extremely quiet for observing the Viet Cong's movements at night. They carried various forms of infra-red and electronic surveillance. There were 11 built, and I think most are still surviving. The story on this one is quite convoluted, but it hasn't moved in a great number of years. Like I said before the rubber has melted off the wheels and the wooden prop is in advanced stages of decay. Not sure if the engine is there or not, but the interior looks fairly complete. The YO-3 is way cool!

I didn't know there were any in private hands...

A few years ago NASA brought one in fly around with the V-22, accessing their sound signature.

Nifty wood prop and funny exahust system.

That's the first time I've seen those "DON'T SHOOT" markings on the upper surfaces of an O-2's wings. That's pretty wild. Is it historically accurate?
