New book due out about test pilots

Wed Jul 07, 2010 6:38 pm

Does anyone know which book this is. It is written by a gentleman that was an engineer from the late 40's throught the 50's. I heard about it at the WWII Weekend.

I don't know about a new book, but I just finished reading "Whistling Death: The Test Pilot's Story of the F4U Corsair" and I have to say it was just excellent. Written by Boone T. Guyton, who I understand passed away a few years after it was published. As an engineer, and a big fan of the Corsair, I really enjoyed his very well written account of the challenges of the development and refinement of a really groundbreaking high performance aircraft. Going from biplanes to 400+ mph in such a short amount of time was an incredible achievement.

That sounds interesting as well. The book I am talking about is being written by a gentleman that was with NACA in the hay day of the eary Jet and rocket aircraft.
