B-25 REPORT

Sun Apr 13, 2008 12:12 am

Does anyone know what happened to the San Juan de Argo Park B-25's in the park down in Mexico? Are they still there and what city are they in if they are still at this park?

Thanks
Dave

One of those puzzles! The locator list on the aerovintage site doesn't give further news.

Oh my God....... those are two sad looking machines.

I'm getting in the car right now and getting down there to save one of them..... unless somebody's that has the same idea and lives closer.

Does anyone know if either were RCAF birds?

This is from aerovintage.com B-25 News, January 2002:

A message posted on the Flyingzone.co.uk web site provides information about the two B-25s long derelict in Mexico City possibly going to be scrapped. The writer, Mr. Bernardo Zarallo, was seeking someone, anyone, who might be interested in helping to save the airplanes. Here is a photo of one of the airplanes that was posted with the message. Thanks to Coert Munk and Jim Church for this heads up.

And from February 2002:

Noted last month was a bit about two derelict B-25s located in Mexico City. These airplanes remain unidentified but Geoff Goodall, he of the noted publication Warbirds Directory, thinks they are probably 44-30692 (N9623C) and 44-29145 (N9877C). This is no doubt correct, though not confirmed. Both airplanes went to the ICAO Civil Aviation Training Center in Mexico City in 1965 and one was an ex-B-25 tanker. A photo of one of the B-25s clearly shows a retardant tank installed.

There were two other B-25s in Mexico City; one is still on a pylon in Chapultepec Park and the other was gutted out and had slides and ladders mounted on it in a kids' playground, but that one was supposedly scrapped. My local Aztec Indian informants said they saw it in a junkyard, but that was years ago...

I think we are now talking about three B-25s in Mexico City.

There are the two first mentioned in this thread and the one at Chapultepec Park is an entirely different airplane.

Depending how old the google sattelite images are, I would have to say that all three still exist as complete airframes.

David

I Googled "Mexico Air Spotters" and the result includes a link to Andre du Pont's photo album on JetPhotos.Net. His last picture post was in March this year ( so I would guess he is still active )

The link to contact him directly is here ..... http://www.jetphotos.net/members/contac ... to=6208536

Good hunting :D
