The link only works for registered Tomcat Sunset forum members, and forum registration has been disabled, so I've no idea what it says. However when I visited AMARG in November I only saw the single F-14 on 'celebrity row', and I believe all the remainder have now been shredded.

In addition to the one on celebrity row there was about a half a dozen or so hidden in one of the rows on the east side of AMARG as of last December. I was told that the Navy had decided not to scrap the few that were left, though they have been demilitarized. They were being held for possible future museum use. I think the Navy Museum wanted to be sure there were enough for any more carriers that get turned into museum ships.

There are quite a few scattered about the country that the Navy would be drawing upon to "fill out" a new carrier museum. Just because you might have one doesn't mean the Navy may not take it back some day, no matter how well you've taken care of it and money spent on it. It is a Very good thing if there are some more airframes held back from the scrappers. Foresight! There is a word you almost never hear from the DoD!!

Foresight, that is a breath of fresh air! I'd love to see a few more Tomcats in museums.

Still found 11 Tomcats remaining at AMARG last week. Joining a Pima Museum bus tour is the way to see them as they are hardly visible from outside the AMARG fencelines.
