Tooting my own horn here, but EAA also has an oral history program, and it's geared entirely towards aviation: http://www.timelessvoices.org. It doesn't matter what program you are participating in - Timeless Voices, Rutgers, CAF, Veterans History Project - if you know a veteran or someone with an interesting story to tell, by all means sit down and do an interview with them. It can be paper and pencil, audio recording, video recording, whatever - it only takes an hour or two, and you'll have helped preserve history. There are tips for conducting an oral history interview on the Timeless Voices website, and you can find helpful info all over the web. Just do a search for "oral history".

A group very close to my heart. :D I've been working with the Rutgers Oral History Archive for the past two years or so and it has been the most fun I've ever had "at school." There is nothing like meeting someone and getting their first hand account of history.

I recently graduated but am still doing some work for them.

I'd be happy to answer any questions about the group. We are a small operation with big ambitions. (Two employees and a lot of undergraduate interns and volunteers)

rreis, Just curious how did you come across the website (was it my signature?) If you have any questions send me a PM.

Thanks for the promotion.

oh, no, sorry. I was on my own. I've been interested on this subjects for a long time and I think I'll start such a project here in Portugal by the end of the year. Maybe before I can contact you to learn a thing or two? It would be welcome. Our radio is just building new studios (were a small college station also with big ambitions) and I was thinking on using that as a base for this thing.

cheers and keep the good work!

rreis, I'd be happy to get you in contact with our director. We often get questions from groups about setting up their own Oral History program. I am sure we could give you some ideas.

Send me a PM about what you would like to know. :)

There are other, similar or related projects outside the USA.

Steve Hatton's: A great little promo film here: http://www.electricegg.co.uk/Into_the_Wind

And Keith Webb is interviewing veterans in Australia at Temora's Aviation Museum.

The IWM of course has a huge oral history archive, sadly underused, IMHO.

I'd be interested of hearing of others.
