Avenger topdresser

Tue Feb 16, 2010 10:04 pm

Just found this clip of the RNZAF Museum's TBF Avenger NZ2504 taken during topdressing trials in 1948. The container used was a modified bomb bay fuel tank and the trial proved the concept of aerial fertilizer sowing here in New Zealand. Its black and white but the colour scheme is the Pacific blue "tri-colour" she arrived in but the addition of a yellow tail and rear fuselage which is her target tug markings. You can also make out the Popeye cartoon on the starboard engine cowlings.
