Was out at Falcon Field briefly at lunch today and it seems every time I drive by I see something else.

What is the story with the two Royal Navy Canberra's? Is someone considering making one airworthy? One was at the CAF the other in the midfield.

Additionally I had asked on another post of the RAF Paint schemed Lockeed Harpoon (Ventura)? Is it airworthy? Project? Who owns it?

Stopped in at the CAF for about 20 minutes and talked to a few of the staff and volunteers. What a pleasant bunch of folks, made me feel very welcome!
And a great looking bunch of aircraft!

Mike,
Sorry I didn't call you back this afternoon. Work! We will be flying the B-17 tomorrow at 3PM for proficiency. We should be back at about 5. I'll be flight engineer on the flight. Come on by!

Hey Mike, Glad you could stop by today. Unfortunately I was driving my UPS truck or I would have given you the grand tour. The RAF Harpoon is owned by Bob Reid. He also owns the MiG 15 UTI that is parked on the CAF ramp.(notice the similar paint?) It is not airworthy at this time but could be made so with some work. Basic airframe is pretty good. The Canberras were flown over from England by a group about fifteen years ago. They were going to be used as high altitude trainers at one time but the ownership group had a falling out and here they sit. One of them has a trashed engine. They use the cartridge type starters and one of them did not light off properly and basically shredded the drive on the nose case. The CAF guys out there are a good bunch. Was Bob Odegaard out there when you were there? He has "STANG" and his new toy the Stinson RG 10 out there for the winter. He was flying the P-51 around this afternoon. I won't be out there until Sunday. Gotta hit the Arizona Nationals NHRA drag races this Saturday for my Nitro fix but if you're there on Sunday, come look me up. I'll be buried in the MiG project in the back of the hangar.

Thanks guys, am in class until about 4. Plan on a trip to Pima likely on the weekend (Saturday likely) and maybe come by CAF Sunday for a better look. Was there for only about 20 minnutes.
Bob was likely the fellow I saw working on the Stinson.
Nice airplane, i have soft spot for them, Needs British Royal Navy colors though!
Lets all still try and get together for a beer!

Where is Falcon Field? I'm in Phoenix for a while, and am without family for a bit. Would love to come out and say hi. PM me with a phone number and I'll see about coming on out.

Hey Guys - There's a formation clinic going on this weekend at Falcon also. If you guys get together for a cold one, swing by The Monastery on the corner of Falcon Dr and McKellips. My band "Ignitors" plays there on Sundays from 2:00 to 6:00. This could be the last Sunday for a while, I'm off to Norway to deliver a couple of MD-80's and don't know how long I'll be gone. I get to see Scott and Chris often, but haven't seen Ryan in a while. Stop by and say hi....

Kevin - Falcon Field is in east Mesa, on McKellips Rd between Greenfield Rd and Higley Rd. just south of the 202 freeway.

There's going to be a hot rod club out there this Sunday. It's a family place where you grill your own food, lots of stuff for the kids and cold, cold beverages.
