Here is a magazine advertisement of milling the same part back in the day. It was taken in Boeing Wichita's Plant II, underneath the balcony in their machine shop. The milling machine is a Farnham. My scanner could not do the whole page (LIFE magazine), so I centered it the best I could.

I noticed they are running it with no exhaust ring or stacks. Is there any danger of burning valves? I know on auto engines that is a big no no.

I don't know about big radials, but on small radials (670's, 760's, 985's, 1340's...) you are at a pretty big risk of warping valves and seats from the rapid temperature changes. That's all I know about it.

Probably sodium cooled valves on a 3350? I would be more concerned with the lack of cooling of the cylinders- a sign is blocking some of the cylinders and you can see the flags blowing forward when the engine is running.

Sparless B-17 guys, there may be hope for you after all.
Desert Rat adn 2 others need a pair of the square tube style 25 footer spars. The Alcoa machine that made them originally was sold off for scrap to China a few years ago.
