DC-4 / C-54 List

I need to try and ID a DC-4/C-54 once operated by Wheeler Airlines. Where should I start? Are there any detailed lists out there for the DC-4 family. Websites? Books? Anyting along the lines of the "Lockheed Twins" book except for the Douglas transports?

Mike,
There is a book called "Piston Engine Airliner Production List" by A B Eastwood and J R Roach published by Aviation Hobby Shop. It lists production of DC-4/C-54 aircraft (along with others) with history of owners and registration numbers. I will be back in Tucson in two weeks to look in my copy if you haven't had your request answered by then.

The book can be purchased in the US from BUCHair in NY.

Dan: Do you know if this is a complete list of Wheeler airframes? Thanks for this BTW, this kind of info is ahrdc to come by.

Did you get what you needed, Mike?

I was on the Eastern (Baffin Island) end of the original DEWLine in 1959/60 and Wheeler had the contract to fly us up from Dorval, Montreal to Cape Dyer and Hall Beach in DC4s. (They also had the contract to fly us laterally along the Line in DC3s).

One of the aircraft, CF-IQM, is still flying (with Buffalo Airways of Yellowknife, as a tanker). She must be nearly 60 years old, and one of the few, if not the only, survivors of the Berlin Airlift still working.

I think Don narrowed it down with the list of four. I get take it any further than that since I can't see any detail markings very well.

That is amazing about CF-IQM. 60 years later and still ticking. Boeing should be using that in a promo for their aircraft!
