The set of M*A*S*H is being rebuilt and is going to be a tourist attraction in the Mailbu Creek Stat Park. You are going to be able to camp out in the tents and such. Here is an old artice I found about the sign. I read somewhere else that they are going to also have a Bell47 or H-13 on the pad.

I visited the site in 1991 and saw a wrecked army ambulance still there and I pocketed a spent .45 blank cartridge.

You can clearly see the ambulance & jeep etc on Google Earth :)

I for one would pay to sleep in the Swamp for a night.

I thought most of the set got burned up in a brush fire that happened around the time of the filming of the final episode.

I'd want to sleep in the VIP tent, where General Iron-guts Kelly once slept...well, last slept...or slept last. Whatever! Or where Bartford Hamilton Steele (3 'e's, not in a row) politely asked the chopper pilot to share "a number".

Maybe Wayne Rogers can go there and do a live "Bulls and Bears" or whichever financial show he does? I'd love to be there, we can fill a stove-pipe with soot!

I want to go to the Mess Hall where Painless had his last supper... Followed by a quick visit to the supply shed with Nurse Dish, and back to The Swamp for a martini(with olive- what is a Martini without a nosh?) with Hawk, Beej & Col. Potter.

Wife and I have been there a bunch of times, maybe Alan Alda, Loretta Swit and Gary Burghoff will show up for the dedication. Its a really beautiful park.

Given Aldas polictical views I'd think that was unlikely...

I use to like him as an actor until I saw some of the "off the wall" things he said politically. My opinion of him declined rapidly...

There is word that they are going to have a M*A*S*H reunion there when it is opened.

Garth, there were two sets. One was the out door set, which got burned up in the fire. THen there was the indoor set which consisted of the Swamp, a few of the other tents, The O.R., Post op and a few other parts of the compound. The Museum of American History ahs the original Signpost, Swamp with all of it's interior items, and the O.R. set. It was on display for while, and is now in storage. I aksed about the chances of them bringing it out again, and got a very unclear answer.

The items being used in this new idea, are exact replicas of the original buildings.

I remember seeing the original Swamp and OR (studio sets) in DC . They had a long hallway set up with tvs showing MASH and all sorts of details and story boards. When you got to the sets they were next to each other behind large sheets of plexiglass. The thing I remember best is the medicine bottles from the OR. They all had porfane and detailed wording on them as to what ailements they were good for and who was in need of them. The word enema was a no where to be seen on the laxative bottle and the use of Viagra was suggested years befor its debut.

After the characters, Trapper John, Blake & Burns left the show and it became the Alan Alda/Hawkeye Pierce show I didn't pay as much attention to it. Still watched it from time to time but once it became a platform for political & anti war agendas it was not as enjoyable.
