i thought this would be a fun post!!! there is alot of history & interesting trivia regarding the old tv show, but please no bob crane x rated stuff!!

colonel hogan's a-2 flight jacket of course was real, & was studio property. it was worn prior to bob crane by frank sinatra in the movie von ryan's express.

sgt. shultze's rifle was a krag.

colonel klink (werner klemperer) ... his father was an internationally known concert pianist.

most uniforms & accoutrements were original. & now worth a fortune i'm sure, with provinence!!

any dumbkoffs care to chime in???

My only bit of trivia is that John Banner (Oberfeldwebel Schultz) was a sergeant in the AAF and served part of the war at the B-24/B-29 Processing Center at Herington, Kansas. He was part of the Signal Supply organization and I've walked on the foundations of the buildings he would have worked in several times.

I am an avid vintage aviation clothing collector, I belong to the Vintage Leather Jackets Forum.
On that website , there are A2 Jacket experts.
Almost all have come to the conclusion that the A2 Bob Cran e wore in the series was in fact a "hollywood prop" and was not an actual A2.

There is a fella here on the airport that is also an avid collector/historian of aviation clothing.
This might be an interesting question to pose to him. Not that I doubt the folks on 'your' forum
but, just like to see what he says.

Why? Because it's so much more important debating what style of Dzuz fasteners were used on B-29s? It's just a valid a pursuit as the planes themselves, and doesn't require multiple millions of dollars.

And yes, I belong to that group as well.

I get much the same feeling when I tell people I am researching and trying to preserve CONUS airfields, structures, and documents before everything is gone. A small group of us have tried to save several WWII B-29 hangars in Kansas but they've all been destroyed in the last couple of years. I've been told that only the airplanes matter, but I feel a connection to history when I walk the grounds of those fields.......

How about the episode where the Hogan's Heroes gang gathered up a fuselage of a B-25 and simulated a flight with the B-25 in a building. I think they were trying to fake out a German general. The B-25 sure looked real but of course it is hard to tell. How about some of the cargo or supply drops from the air. The cargo drops show a person jumping out of a C-47 and the personnel drop shows cargo being dropped. The bombers/cargo planes are standard WWII footage and intermixed. A B-17 starts it off and ends with a C-47 or the other way around. I think it is a great show and a good topic to discuss. I think there could be a separate posting category for aviation movies and shows. I've always wondered about the uniforms on Hogan Heroes. Are they real or Hollywood made? I especially wonder about the numerous types of vehicles they use. I am not a war vehicle buff but it would be interesting to know what they used. I have identified some trucks as American but that is as far as it goes. I find some of the cast members real "bio" is ironic and interesting when it is in regards to their internment.

How about the episode where Hogan & Klink go to England to steal a P-51. They are allowed to take it but they run out of gas or something and they bail out. The P-51 was "played around with" for intelligence purposes so the Germans could not get any secrets.

I know nothing, I hear nothing, I see nothing. Sgt. Schultz played the military part great. I'm sure being in the U.S. military helped.

On a related note:
One of the Jeeps used in the TV series *Combat* may be up for sale soon.... the owner just died & his GF may be having a clean out. He also had a T6.....

Col Klink was also Jewish and his family escaped from Germany in the late 30s.
He served in the AAF in the Pacific in WWII. I loved him on the Simpson's!!!
