Warbird Information Exchange

A friend sent me this photo and asked if I could identify the aircraft it came from. The photo was taken somewher in the Franklin Mountains State Park near El Paso, Texas. I have no idea of the scale, so I do not really know how big the part is:

Looks like a Lockheed taildragger twin to me. Perhaps an Electra Jr.?

I agree with BDK; Lockheed main gear that used to have a Goodyear Airwheel balloon wheel, tire and brake before the fire consumed it.

Les Whittlesey's Electra Jr. has different wheels and brakes but is otherwise the same:



I helped Yanks with some data to manufacture some spare new upper trunnions for their aircraft and can attest that the upper trunnion on the wreck looks the same as well.

Somebody call TIGHAR...those goofy crabs must've dragged it away.
