Just curious if anyone knows the story behind the BF-109 wreck stored inside the Mighty 8th Air Force Museum. The folks I spoke with at the museum didn't know a lot about it...just curious. The few pictures I have (and known info) are linked down below. Thanks!

Here's what I have from my older files.

Messerschmitt 109E-7 wk.nr.5975 , Yellow 4 of 6./JG5
Built by WNF, Austria in 1940 and lost after combat with enemy fighters over Finland on 10.5.42 . The pilot Uffz. Heinz Bausch is listed as MIA. Recovered in 1994 from a frozen lake, the fuselage and numerous other parts were purchased by Warbird Recovery, Broomfield, U.S.A. in 1994, for eventual rebuild to flying condition.
Wreck donated to Mighty Eighth Air Force Museum, Savannah.

Thanks again for the information. I've been working a little on the flight here from ICAS (wifi on the plane...so cool) and have located several additional subjects. Now I just need to go grab some interviews and pictures. I'm hoping to do a week long series on these airplanes. Should be fun. If anyone has any suggestions...feel free to write. Thanks!

This one came from Murmansk Russia IIRC? I have a picture of it somewhere. What you want to do is get in contact with Gordon Page (a real nice guy BTW) he is the one who brought it to the USA. You can read about it in the book "War Bird Recovery."

Gordon used to post here, don't know if he is still a member?
