I believe it was the early 90's at Geneseo. (Maybe 91 or 92)
I remember that show.
We had the Chilean Air Force demo team perform and a Skycrane brought in Tallichet's yellow AD-5.
Lanc and B-24 give it away.

Yes sir! Yea i think the first few seconds with "Chapter 5" taking off was at Sun N Fun while of course the Sally B footage came from Duxford. But the spectacular 7 Bomber flyover was at Geneseo. Wish events like that weren't just a thing of the past.

Most of the footage came from the Wings of Eagles Airshow in Geneseo from 1991... that was the first (and last) time that a B-24 Liberator actually landed on the grass there... as the Collings Foundation participated that year with both the B-24 "All American" and the B-17 "Nine-o-Nine". That was the year that the Halcones (Chilean Air Force Team) flew the show as well.

It was the 1989 WOE Airshow that saw the B-24 "Delectable Doris" over the valley... Tallichet based it at Buffalo as the ground was soft. It flew in formation with the Lanc and the B-17 for the first time that year. Tallichet also had the Skyraider flown in from Dansville (where it was trucked in) via the Skycrane that year... it was my first ever airshow and what a sight that was!

Ah yes, those were fun times. I have numerous stills from that show in Geneseo. I flew in the back seat of the Corsair that year.

Get the 1989 show tape by Electronic Field Productions (EFP) narrated by Joel Loy... it was a fantastic documentary in itself, far better than most airshow videos in my opinion. I believe that Discovery Wings even played it a few times as part of their features. Some of the footage will put tears in your eyes... seriously.

The wimmen-folk have "Beaches" and the "English Patient" to make them all weepy... I tell ya, gimme the '89 WOE show video and "One Six Right" in the same afternoon and you'll be passing the Kleenex.

For a moment there I almost posted this was 89 but it's not 89 because Bob Richardson's F model (now static in Seattle with the Boeing museum) is not in it. I think 1989 was Richardson's last airshow as well as he died not long after the show and the plane didn't leave till the following year if I remember correct. Yes I too went in 1989 and it was my first published article in Pacific Flyer. I met great people there and that flyby (which was just about identical to this one) was incredible. Thanks for bringing back the memories- that truly was an amazing time. I just found the copy of my 1989 video that you mention also as I've emptied out my storage unit. I need to make a DVD of it.

If there was ever one single piece of video that got me hooked on Warbirds, this was it. And yes it can and does bring tears to my eyes. I remember my dad taped it off Discovery one night when I must have been 3. This single VHS tape was the sole item to keep me distracted for hours (imagine me in front of the TV with a whole mess of 1/144ths lined up in different rows, making every engine noise!)

Getting back to the best of the bunch, the Wings of Eagles 89 video is still one of the best. The soundtrack, narration, and shots were all spectacular and really made me a die hard fan of the whole scene. Thats kinda what I base any show of off.

I mean who could forget Bill's P-40 puttin' some holes in that Zero!?

Or Fuddy Duddy at the end of the documentary at dusk pulling up over the crowd!?

Or even the heart felt stories of the few veterans that were interviewed for the video? I remember a short segment that featured a sparky old gentleman under a B-17 shouting: "Hey some kids, thats what I like to see!" And then to the camera "First of all you can see I can an affection towards this airplane. I've got six grandchildren who are all brainwashed on Twelve O'clock High square G B-17s! There the ones who are gonna keep it going, Im, Im not gonna be around forever, and I think that this is an important part of our history, and I'd hate to see it dying."

I look at it this way. My grandfather got me interested in aviation and WWII, that VHS tape and more importantly Wings over Eagles 89 is probably the reason why Im on this board today. Of course there were alot of other things along the way but thats what sparked it all. I'd like to get a set of all the videos that were made on the Wings of Eagles shows, if anyone has a spare collection?

More importantly, I'd like to find out what the soundtrack was for the 89 documentary? I've heard it a couple times on other documentaries or shows but very rarely. Anyone have a clue?

I missed the 89' show, I really wish I had been there for it. I also wished I took 10x the amount of pictures at all the shows. Someday I need to scan the negatives from the shows so I can get some good digital copies to post.
