Those were shot around Tonapah during the early
days of the MiG exploitation program. Those first
two MiGs were loaned to us by Israel. There is a
series of photos of pretty much everything in the
inventory at the time airborne with at least one of
the MiGs.

Are those the two Syrian Migs that got lost and landed at a civil airfield in Israel? Didn't the US also get the famous 007 Mig 21 that was flown by an enticed defector from Iraq? What happened to those three aircraft?

Yup!

My understanding is they went back to Israel. As the
years went by we developed out own resources via
defection (Belinko) or third party access (Indonesia, etc)

The best referance on this I've read is "Red Eagles" by
Steve Davies. Everything in it I've been able to fact
check is "spot on".
