Hi All -

One of the two F-100Cs that use to reside with the museum at the former Chanute AFB is now with the Prairie Aviation Museum in Bloomington, IL. the photos were taken not long after it was moved but before it was moved into the museum fenced in enclosure. The aircraft history is:

F-100C, s/n 54-1784

Manufactured by North American Aviation, Inglewood CA and delivered to the USAF on 21 Sep 1955.
Sep 1955 To 450th Fighter-Day Wing (Tactical Air Command), Foster AFB TX
Oct 1955 To 3345th Technical Training Wing (Air Training Command), Chanute AFB IL
Jan 1959 To Chanute Technical Training Center (ATC), Chanute AFB (to GF-100C)
Sep 1974 Dropped from inventory by transfer to museum program

There's a few items on it that they would like to correct/repair. The left front quarter panel of the windscreen is damaged and the tires are threadbare. They would also like to find an afterburner -21 can that they can acquire or one that can be borrowed and a mold pulled from it to make up a burner of the correct 24 segment "-21" shape. Or if anyone knows of a F-100C on display in the Midwest I can visit to take pics and measurements of the burner can. And finally, F-100 C parts and repair manuals. I can readily copy/scan the manuals if someone has them and will let us borrow them.

Anyone know where we can find any of this? Don't worry about the faux T-Birds scheme, when time and money allow, it'll take on the proper colors.

Thanks in advance! Mark

Interesting, an F-100C with an F-100D tail. Some of the Taiwanese F-100As were modified with an F-100D tail, but I have never seen any Cs converted.

This 'Bird was moved from Rantoul to Bloomington in mid-August, via highway -- still assembled !!
IDOT and the Illinois State Police coordinated and monitored the move, with assistance from several local police agencies. Hafley Crane Service provided the transportation.

That would have been great to see a Hun on the highway.
