This month includes:
1. Maurice Hammond flying his North American P-51D Mustang “Marinell” during its fourth air test on August 17th, 2008. Lt Myer R. Winkelman was flying this 339th Fighter Group war veteran when it was shot down over France on August 13th 1944.
2. A rare formation of F8F Bearcats and F7F Tigercats seen over Chino, CA during the 2009 Planes of Fame Airshow, being flown by John Hinton in the Thai Bearcat, Steven Hinton in “224”, Stew Dawson in “Big Bossman” and Steve Hinton in "Here Kitty, Kitty!".
3. Chris Prevost flying his beautifully restored combat veteran Curtiss P-40N-5 Warhawk, with his mechanic Denny Jones in the back seat, over Sonoma County, CA.
4. Beautifully restored by Ezell Aviation, Jim Smith's rare Supermarine Seafire FR47 VP441 is seen being flown by Nelson Ezell over Crystal Lakes, MT.
5. Bob McGarry's Simmons Spartan flew for the first time in November 2008 following a lengthy restoration. The three seater is the only one of its type flying in the world and is based in the South Island of New Zealand. Bob Goddard test flew the aircraft and is seen here at the controls.
6. The Sanders family's P&W R-4360 powered, 4,000 horsepower, Hawker Sea Fury T.20 "Dreadnought", being flown by Dan Vance, overhead Eagles Nest airport in Ione, CA.
7. Mark Watt displaying Steve Craig's rare Grumman F4F-3 Wildcat at the Tennessee Museum of Aviation's 2005 Warbird Weekend in Sevierville, TN. This warbird is now owned by Rod Lewis of San Antonio, TX.
8. American Airpower Museum’s North American B-25 Mitchell “Miss Hap” flying over Letchworth State Park during the 2005 Geneseo Airshow.
9. Jeary Smith’s beautiful Cessna 190, with copilot Blake Wampler, flying to Nulltown, Indiana early one summer's morning this year.
10. Air Force One, a Boeing VC-25A (ex 747-2G4B), approaching San Francisco's (SFO) runway 28R with the President on board. Taken on October 15th, he was in SFO for a Democratic Fundraiser.
11. Al Marshall runs the engines on Bristol Freighter ZK-CPT at Omaka in New Zealand on a cold winters night in July 2009. Al and his small team set about restoring the aircraft in 2008 following a break of more than 20 years as a static display. The aircraft was able to taxi in front of the crowd at Classic Fighters 2009, but is not destined to fly.
12. The US Navy's Blue Angels support plane, a Lockheed C-130 Hercules named "Fat Albert", is seen at Fleet Week 2009 in San Francisco with Alcatraz Island in the background.
